Dear Birth Parent,
We are excited and grateful that you have chosen adoption for your child.
We know you have a lot of different families to consider, and choosing a family for your child is a tough decision. We hope we can make this journey easier for you by telling you this: we will love, nurture, support and give your child every opportunity for the best life possible. We are so happy to tell you about our family and hope we can meet you to continue the conversation.
We are a close-knit family of three hoping to expand our family with another child. We have one biological son, Leo, who is 7. Our plans to have another child didn?t work out like we?d hoped, but life has a funny way of leading you to other options you didn?t know were possible.? Instead of spending a lot of time and money on fertility treatments, we decided to focus our energy and love on a child that God has already created.
We met in college, at Indiana University, when we were both taking part in a bike race there. Our friend introduced us. In her words, ?the two nicest people in the world should meet each other?. She was right; we have very similar values and interests, and have been happily married for 13 years! ?We spent the first 5 years of our marriage doing our favorite things: biking, hiking, traveling, visiting family and building our careers. In 2005, we were ready to start a family and Leo came along, opening up a whole new level of joy in our lives. We knew then we were meant to raise children.? When you enjoy something so much, you want more of it, which is why we want to adopt.
We have focused our home life on family. In 2007, Ryan quit his job as a Special Education teacher to be a full time stay-at-home Dad, which he describes as the ?best job in the world?. Our plan is that he will continue this with the new child at least until Kindergarten. ?Jackie works in cancer research for a pharmaceutical company. Her work is flexible and she is able to work from home usually. Ryan loves to plan outings with Leo, whether it is going to the park, science museum, hardware store, or playing basketball. After work, Jackie loves to play games or ride bikes with Leo. We love to take family vacations, so when Leo showed an interest in space, we traveled to all the major space centers in the US! We are excited to try new things and look forward to nurturing the interests a new child will have.
Our son Leo is a gentle, loving boy who can?t wait to be an older brother. He is always asking when this baby will come. He has a lot of things he wants to show this new child, and we can envision him showing off his new reading skills to the baby.
Your baby?s heritage and culture are important to us. We welcome the opportunity to honor the background he or she comes from. Also, we are open to whatever arrangements you feel comfortable with in regards to keeping in touch.
We want you to know you have our greatest respect for the courage you are showing. We wish you much success in this journey and in life.
?Ryan and Jackie
